1865-72 The six Frame Exhibit, beautifully mounted and professionally written up on 96 pages (including eight double pages to accommodate large multiples and sheets). The Senate of deputies of the Republic of Ecuador authorized three printing plates for the purpose of printing postage stamps of the country. Four denominations were chosen including Medio Real (blue), Un Real (orange), Un Real (green) and Quatro Real (red). The first three stamps were based on the same frame, ring of pearls and corner decorations as the first stamps of France (1853) and Greece (1862). The Quatro Real stamps was based on the first stamps of Mexico. There are numerous highlights including medio Real blue on blue surfaced paper, complete sheet of 84, originating from the second printing in 1869, possessing complete marginal rules, showing the characteristic uneven alignment of transfers and the usual natural surface irregularities. The paper surface-coloration was probably caused by diffusion of the aniline blue dye (which was used as locally produced ink) into the paper during the printing process. One of only about six complete sheets recorded of this value. There is a strip of nine of medio Real on wrapper from Riobamba to Guaranda (first recorded use from this town in the Andes and the largest recorded multiple of medio real on wrapper). There is a wrapper with a horizontal strip of five and single 4 Reales brown red, used in combination with pair and single of Un Real yellow, cancelled by blue "3154" and red "3154" from Quito to Guaranda. Another, possibly unique piece of Ecuadorian philately, is the block of 24 of Un Real orange, cancelled Riobamba in red cds. It is the largest recorded used multiple of this issue. There are of course numerous other gems, ex-Hubbard, Longhi, Bustamante, Antilla and other famous collections, accompanied by at least 27 certificates, mostly from Brian Moorhouse, also Peter Holcombe and Sergio Sismondo. An unequalled opportunity to obtain a large gold-medal collection of classic Ecuador, with possibility for expansion.
